Fellowships

The OSGC would like to recognize and thank the Ohio Department of Higher Education (State of Ohio) and the Ohio Aerospace Institute for providing financial support to our Scholarship and Fellowship program!

In an effort to encourage advanced education in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) the Ohio Space Grant Consortium (OSGC) offers financial support through competitively awarded fellowship opportunities. Fellowships are funded through the by Congress to the National Space Grant College and Fellowship Program and administered through the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

To be considered for a fellowship, students must be citizens of the United States pursuing a graduate degree in a STEM-related discipline at an Ohio member university. Underrepresented Minority students, women, and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply. OSGC member schools and related STEM disciplines are listed below. All fellowship recipients are required to propose and initiate a research project under the guidance of a faculty mentor during the academic school year. The research project must have a direct relationship to STEM and be in direct alignment with one of the following four (4) NASA Mission Directorates: Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate (ARMD); Human Exploration and Operations Mission Directorate (HEOMD); Science Mission Directorate (SMD); and Space Technology Mission Directorate (STMD).

Fellowships Recipients must also attend and present the findings of their research/educational activity at the Annual Student Research Symposium, held every April at the Ohio Aerospace Institute in Cleveland, Ohio. Interested students should contact the Campus Representative at their home university for more information. Note that no indirect charges are allowed by the university for fellowship awards. All fellowship awards are contingent on available funding.

Awards to Master's students are $20,000 ($17,000 from NASA and $3,000 from the university, plus a tuition waiver) for the academic school year (two semesters). OSGC will provide the funding to the university in late Summer. The fellowship may be extended for an additional period if the student's academic performance is acceptable, good progress has been made on the research project, and upon approval of the Advisor and Campus Representative. Master’s 1 recipients who are interested in an extension are encouraged to follow up with their Campus Representative about their school’s policy. Master’s fellowship recipients are required to attend the Annual Student Research Symposium at the Ohio Aerospace Institute and make a PowerPoint presentation on their research project. Note that no indirect charges are allowed by the university for Master’s fellowship awards. All Master’s fellowship awards are contingent on available funding.

Interested students should submit a completed application package that includes the following:

  1. Completed Application Form
  2. Title and brief description of proposed research project – Signature approval by Advisor required.
  3. Attach copy of research program proposal.
  4. Attach copy of resume.
  5. Attach copy of listing of publications and presentations.
  6. Attach unofficial transcripts – both undergraduate and previous graduate work.
  7. Certification – Both Student Signature and Campus Representative Signature required.

Applications are to be submitted to the appropriate Campus Representative by February 1. Applications are due to the OSGC Program Office by Mid-February.
